The steps to create the file are:
- In the main menu bar, Create->Nurbs->NurbsParaboloid
- Right-click in the viewport, and select MeshModifier->NurbsPolygonizePatch

Currently, most power of K-3D is hiding in this right-click menu, or the Modify main menu. For quicker access, you can also assign hotkeys.

Regards,

Hi Bart!

Thank you soooo much for help! The first one is just what I wanted. May I ask you how did you get that ¨NurbsPolygonizePatch¨ option?

Hi,

Not sure what kind of wireframe you're after, but I attach two possible options, created out of a NurbsParaboloid (from the create->nurbs menu). One uses repeated NurbsExtractPatchCurve applications to get a series of (exact) curves on the surface, the other uses NurbsPolygonizePatch to get an (approximate) polygon representation of the paraboloid.

Cheers,

Hello everyone!

I do need your help as I´m a complete novice in 3d modelling. Iḿ trying to create paraboloid with wire frame, though I can´t figure out how to do this (wire frame, not paraboloid). Any help and suggestions are highly appreciated.

Thanks

I think that the tutorial you're looking-at is pretty dated - there was a significant reorganization of the menus for K-3D 0.8.

To make a connection to your input mesh property (or any other property), you can click anywhere on the property label, or the "plug" icon to the left of the label - this provides a menu of property-connection functions that are available for any property. From your description, you're clicking the "Mesh Options" button, which provides functionality that is specific to mesh properties.

Cheers,
Tim

ok so i found out that they are doing a symmetry thing with it, they make a sphere, delete half of it, then use symmetry to copy the half and rotate to the flip side and all that. The issue im finding is when i do a mesh instance, i dont have an option to connect the mesh input to anything. When i click the input mesh button it gives me options to save mesh. Anyone know why this is? I'd like to get to learn more into this stuff so thanks for the help.

Hi all,
Im new to using K-3D and pretty much 3D modeling in general. I was looking at a tutorial "Simple Face and Head 3D Modeling" and right off in the beginning they go to the create menu on the top, then go to what looks like development, and they have probably 15 different options under that...i only have 2 options. Any idea on why that is? im not sure what option they use under development because i cannot see it very clearly, something to do with Mesh i think. Is there something else i need to install to get all of these options?

Thanks much,
Sam

Fair enough, I'm also using libsigc++ 2.2, so my hypothesis that yours was out-of-date is completely wrong. Since it's working fine for me in 0.8, that's what you should be building.

Cheers,

"It's possible that you have an older version of libsigc++ and the build system isn't catching it, but it would have to be really ancient"

It's 2.2.3. ./configure gave me the all-clear but make breaks all the same.

(Sorry - not so patient after all!)

It's possible that you have an older version of libsigc++ and the build system isn't catching it, but it would have to be really ancient (I'm guessing on the order of five years or more). Regardless, I strongly recommend against building 0.6. Even though it's technically "unstable", our 0.8 release is very close to release, uses a superior build system (CMake), and has many, many improvements over 0.6.

Cheers,

I kept running ./configure and installing the missing dependencies it flagged up until it ran OK so I thought I'd got them all.

My guess is a library issue but I am using the latest code from http://k3d.hg.sourceforge.net/hgweb/k3d/k3d/file/ on a Debian based system so I can't be more specific. Have you checked all the dependencies for building that version?
