I have tested K-3D on xp succesfully, so probably is your specific configuration. Soft? Hard? Try disabling 3d accel. Is xp 64bit? o 32? Maybe as you say k3d is finding different version of the expected dlls. Maybe you could list the dll versions Cheers!
