k-3d 0.6.6.0 --without-ngui and x86_64 broken

This message was originally posted by Kevin R. Bulgrien on 12/18/2007 17:11:30
FYI, I recently tried to build/run k-3d 0.6.6.0. I fulfilled the requirements, but had to manually modify the configure script to detect opengl and openglu:
k3d_check_opengl_directories=\"/usr/lib64 /usr/local/lib /usr/X11R6/lib\"
^^
k3d_check_openglu_directories=\"/usr/lib64 /usr/local/lib /usr/X11R6/lib\"
^^
I didn’t feel like fulfilling dependencies on ngui at the time and tried --without-ngui. Not that I have any idea that that makes sense... but still, it doesn’t run after building correctly.
$ cd ~/tmp
$ bin/k-3d
ERROR UI plugin module [/home/krb/tmp/lib/libk3dngui.so] does not exist
Of course, it doesn’t exist because it was built without ngui, so, I guess I’ll load the ngui requirements and try again.
The ./configure line was:
./configure --prefix /home/krb/tmp --without-ngui

The ngui module is the \"new user graphic interface\". For a normal user has no sense not having it :-) (although it’s useful for automated script without GUI for example)
I would suggest you to try to build the last development version 0.7 which will probably run much better on 64bit. Also it has new interesting features.(although it crashes sometimes :)

If you want to leave your experience compiling K-3D for future users you can add a wiki article for the linux distribution you are building with.

We would like to hear what you think of K-3D. You can contact us through this forum or on the k3d-development mailing list.
Also if you are interested you can subscribe to the Announce mailing list to keep in touch.

Hi Taleneo!
For the reflection map there is a good example thats comes bundled with K-3D.
On the k3d folder look for share/documents/logo.k3d
Right now creating and adjusting a new material is not very user friendly. So the best thing is that you investigate other files as examples.
If you create a sphere primitive for example. Go to its material property, then the surface shader. There, you will see you can choose the shader file (.sl). You can test them and see the results.
About the mirror material. I actually don’t know how to do it. In fact i don’t know if you need strictly Yafray as a renderer. I haven’t tested it.
Tim (the project leader) or someone who knows probably will answer that question.
Please don’t hesitate sending us your opinion about K-3D.
Also the K-3d has just created a Announce mailing to keep users informed. You can subscribe if you would like to.

Cheers!

Hello!
Thank you very much. It helps me a lot, and k3d too. I am testing everything and trying to learn alone reading.
If in some weeks I cant find one spanish site about k3d I will start it. I am working in one special structure building with k3d tools to make something rare and visual to help the project.
CheEeeeeeeeeeEEeers!

One little thing more:
My english is very bad, I know just a little bit about Open Source, Unix, scripts, and computers, programs, those things. I just use it to work and to play :D . Then if 3d works with my brain, the guys working here are doing very well the work.
Good Luck! and thank you again.
And sorry my english... =)

Hi taleneo! (un tal eneo?)
I am from Argentina, so i speak Spanish (supposedly :-). I will answer in Spanish to make things faster.
No hay sitio de K-3D en español que yo sepa. Si querés empezar uno, podés pedir una cuenta en la wiki a Tim.
Mandále un mail con un nombre de usuario y un email asociado a la wiki. (en inglés y explicále más o menos el tema)
http://k-3d.org/wiki/User:Tim
Luego podés empezar un artículo en tu espacio de nombre.
http://k-3d.org/wiki/User:Taleneo/es/Pagina_Principal
Cheers!
Joaquín
