RendermanArray and rendering problems

This message was originally posted by Rifd on 12/30/2007 15:29:05
I am having a few problems with K3d version 0.6.7.0 on FeistyFawn.
1) After I have selected an object, when I click in the toolbar modify>>and a mesh modifying icon, the object deselects, and even if I try to manually connect that tool to an object, there is no apparent effect. This is not a biggie for me, because I can work through the menu, But I thought it might be related to #2 below
2) After I create a RenderManArray, and fill in the \"node properties\", I lose my ability to render (preview, range or frame). Also the RenderManArray boxes in the visualization screen are not always the same size as the source object, especially after the source object is modified in the same as in the array tutorials (it keeps the same size and shape as the unmodified object).
It does not seem to be a memory problem, because I can create 20 spheres and render them.
Any suggestions ? Do I have incompatible packages, and could you direct me how to find or reinstall without bugs ? Is it a bug in the software ?
Would be glad of some assistance.

Hi rifd!
For 1)
Actually the modify menu its not working properly. You should use the right-click menu when you have your object selected. Doing so will connect the nodes correctly.
Explanation: The Modify menu creates a modifier nodes, but doesn’t connect it correctly to the current selection. See how it’s done using the right click menu and you will learn how to connect nodes manually.
for 2)
Which version of K-3D are you using? 0.6.7 the one that comes with ubuntu?
Seems you are right about the rendering problem. I could not render it after creating a renderman array.
(this is fixed on 0.7, you can compile it if you like see
http://k-3d.org/wiki/Debian_Build)
Anyway you can create a normal array. (you can add it as a modifier with right click)
Although -about the box object- in my case it changes when i change the source node. Check you are selecting the correct source node.
Cheers!
