NURBS Surfaces road-map?

This message was originally posted by yaroukh on 05/07/2008 20:00:19
Is there something like NURBS Surfaces road-map? I am glad to see the NURBS are evolving in K-3D, and I am curious about features that have been approved for implementation.
(There is one particular feature I have on my mind, so I’d like to check the proposals to see whether there is chance of getting it done one day.)
Best regards
Yaroukh

Even better! There is a Google Summer of Code NURBS project!
You can track the progress at http://www.k-3d.org/wiki/User:Caste
To participate in the discussion about this project, you are very welcome

I am subscribed to the list, I am just not sure whether it is the right place to put my question(s). I don’t have the knowledge level (related to working with 3d graphics in C++) to contribute to the discussion with you guys. My only experience with NURBS is the one of Rhino end-user.
My question is related to NURBS-surfaces with variable local detail level. To my knowledge it is not that common feature even in today’s modellers. (TSplines plugin delivers mentioned functionality to Rhino, Maya etc.)
Yet it is something that probably everyone working with NURBS longed for sometimes. I think I may have idea how this can be achieved, and IMO it shouldn’t be that difficult for someone who is familiar with NURBS in C++ (not my case, rather yours :)... But I am yet to find some source that would confirm (or not) that the task gets done in the way I think it is.
So I was wondering whether the NURBS-surfaces with variable local detail level (is there an acronym for that?) are considered for K-3D.

Until now, we have not yet considered TSplines. I had not heard of them before now, in fact. I still think it’s best to take this discussion to the mailing list, to see what the others think about this. Even though it’s called \"k3d-development\", user feedback and opinions are greatly appreciated.
