How can I create a hollow cylinder?

What is the correct sequence of actions to create a hollow cylinder?
I tried to create two cylinders one inside another and delete their caps, then I am stuck at merging the tops of them.

Hi Mech,
Did you try the Mug Tutorial? It achieves what you try to do.
http://www.k-3d.org/wiki/Mug_Tutorial
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ER5w_6-ZZpU
There was another page on the K3D wiki, with more details, but I cannot retrieve it.
If you still have issues after these two pointers, just tell, I will help :-)

If you mean like a pipe, try starting with a torus with only 5 or 6 v segments then select and scale the two edge loops so the sides are parallel.

I saw the mug tutorial, but it did not provide any instructions on the sequence of actions.
How do I scale the edges?

Yes, I'm surprised too. There was one a lot clearer, at the same address. May be some one broke it inadvertently while editing the wiki page?

The mug may not be OK if you want a tube (dut to the bottom face I can't remove). Here is the best I see for now:
* Create an hyperboloid primitive (item #8 from the right of the Create tool bar)
* Change Start Point Y to -1 (instead of -5)
* Change End Point Y to 1 (instead of 5)
* Example render in first attached picture
Alternatively
* Create an NURBS hyperboloid (right‑most item in the Create tool bar)
* Change y1 to -1 (instead of -5)
* Change y2 to 1 (instead of 5)
* Example render in second attached picture

How can I create a hollow cylinder?

OK, here's an alternative way to do it for polygons:
- Create a PolyCylinder (toolbar at the top)
- Right-click it and apply the ExtrudeFaces mesh modifier
- Create a new PolyCylinder exactly like the first one (or even better a mesh instance that refers back to the first one)
- Apply the FlipOrientation mesh modifier to the new cylinder
- Select both cylinders, and apply the MergeMesh modifier
- Apply the WeldPoints modifier to make sure that points with the same coordinates become only a single point
Ideally, I should add an option to ExtrudeFaces to keep the original faces, that would make this significantly easier
If you want a NURBS version, you can do the following (there are several methods, this seems most robust):
- Create two NurbsCircles (from the create menu) and set the radii as desired
- Select both objects (Select Nodes mode) and do a MergeMesh
- Richt-click and choose "Instantiate"
- Click Move and move the new instance to where you want the pipe to end
- Switch to Select Curves mode and select two curves (i.e. inner top and bottom) and apply NurbsRuledSurface, switching "Delete the Curves" off.
- Repeat the NurbsRuledSurface for all curve pairs where you want a patch to be created
Regards,
Bart
