How to read in a ply file?

How can I read a ply file with K-3D?
If I do File -> Open... and choose my ply file I get an error message
"Documents prior to K-3D 0.8 are unsupported"
even though the release notes (http://www.k-3d.org/wiki/Release_Notes) clearly states
"New / rewritten support for 3DS, Collada, OBJ, MD2, Ogre, PLY, STL, and SVG files. "
Any ideas?
Also I read abou the PLYMeshReader plugin, but wasn't able to find out wether it is already installed or if I have to download and add it myself (and if so how to do that)
Any help would be appreciated.

I'm new, so I can't help, but you can use other tools and export ply in other file,
but I hope, you can find answer.
other way is trying compile k3-d, maybe in source you can find ply plugin and activ.

Yes, most support for importing is available through MeshReaders. From the Create menu, select MeshReader->PLYMeshReader. In the node propertie, you can then set the filename to your PLY object and it should become visible in the viewport. Hope this helps!
