Confirmed, this is a bug in

Confirmed, this is a bug in Weld combined with SDS. As a workaround to get the intended result, you can try a script:

  • Create a polycone
  • Right-click and add a MeshModifierScript from the menu
  • Click "Edit script" in the node properties
  • Paste the following code to replace what is there
#python

import k3d

context.output.copy(context.input)

input_points = context.input.points()
polyhedron = k3d.polyhedron.validate(context.output, context.output.primitives()[0])
face_selections = polyhedron.face_selections()

for i in range(len(face_selections)):
  if (i / 32) % 2:
    face_selections[i] = i % 2
  else:
    face_selections[i] = 1 - i % 2
  • Click on the cone in the viewport
  • Go to select faces mode
  • In the node properties, in the "Selection options" menu, click "Reset Selection"
  • You should now have the complete cone with alternating selections. Ctrl-click the bottom face to deselect it
  • Proceed with the extrude, turning off the "Group Faces" option

The resulting object should allow MakeSDS to be used without problems

Texture example

I'm attaching a file that might help. The settings are in the RenderMan shader, where you need to use an urbermap shader, and link a RenderManTexture with it. The file is loaded through the BitmapReader, you well need to adjust the path in the node to get it to work on your machine.

At this point, texture support in K-3D is very rough, unfortunately. The basics are there in the code, but we need someone to write a more intuitive shader to make it all work nicely.
